Larval cestode parasites of shallow-water, benthic mollusks were collected during a three-year period from the eastern Gulf of Mexico (Florida Keys to the Mississippi Sound). During that study, 2, mollusks representing 36 gastropod species, 55 pelecypod species, and one octopus from 30 sampling localities were examined for larval cestodes File Size: 1MB. There are high densities of benthic foraminifera in the shelf and slope sediments of the Gulf of Mexico [10–12], which allows for a robust assessment of changes in benthic foraminiferal density. The lifespan of benthic foraminifera is on the order of months to years, which readily allows for adaptation to environmental changes [ 13, 14 ].Cited by:

The second sediment diversion is proposed at Mile 68 of the Mississippi, in Bertrandville, LA, and will divert sediment into Breton Sound (CPRA, ; Fig. 1).Author: Jillian C. Tupitza, Cassandra N. An illustrated guide with key to selected benthic invertebrate fauna of the northern Gulf of Mexico (MESC contribution)Author: Thomas Sawyer Hopkins. The importance of coral reefs (CR) within marine ecosystems has become widely recognized.

Although shallow CR are not as abundant in the Gulf of Mexico (GoM) as in other areas such as the Caribbean, their uniqueness, singularity, isolation, and conservation status make their conservation highly important.
